Autoblog - My 10 Favorite Posts

Autoblog is a great blog for car nuts. I discovered it as one of the options on My Yahoo and have been a loyal reader ever since. Here are links to some of my favorite posts from Autoblog and why I found them interesting and relevant to my life.

Now that I'm a family man, I need to have more space to carry things (and people). But that doesn't mean I still don't long to have the perfomance and handling of a sports car. So I was enthused by high powered limited edition SUVs that are coming on the market.

The folks at Jeep introduced the Grand Cherokee Limited SRT-8, a Hemi powered beast that can outrun a Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Read about it on Autoblog here. A little more upscale and even more powerful is the ML63 AMG from Mercedes. Information was posted on Autoblog here.

Of course with gas prices the way they are, the cost of driving a something like this would be enormous -- so it's probably better to dream of things more practical.

I had to take issue with Doug Flint's VW reliability report posted here (as did a few others), although it did provoke some interesting discussion. I've got a 2003 VW Passat GLX with 45k miles with no major troubles and a good relationship with the dealer where I bought the car. In fact I'm considering getting a new Passat VR6, which based on the information posted on Autoblog here, looks very appealing.

After my experiences in the early 90s, I pretty much gave up on American cars. I found them to be both unreliable and boring to drive. But they sure are trying hard with appealing models both new (the affordable Pontiac Solstice convertible described here on Autoblog) and old (the go-faster Chevy Corvette Z06 detailed here on Autoblog). I can't really go for a two-seater right now, but would be nice!!

Getting back to the practical, I like the idea of hybrids, but until recently they were only being offered in small, economy cars (Civic, Prius, Insight). Leave it to Lexus to bring the innovation to luxury cars. It's the best of both worlds -- having gobs of horsepower, along with gas mileage in the highs-20s. Information about the upcoming Lexus GS450h was posted on Autoblog here. Or maybe I should get the hybrid SUV like Dustin Hoffman (story here).

And of course, where would we be without exotic cars to drool over? Whether it's the million dollar Bugatti detailed here or the sleek Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder shown here, there's some serious WOW out there being covered by Autoblog.
