Editors - The Back Room (Music Review)

Since their retro sound is still fashionable these days (though who knows for how much longer), it's all too easy to dismiss Editors as a "me-too" band. Yes, at times they sound like Joy Division. And other post-punk bands too. Sure there's a lot of bands sporting similar influences, but I rather like that kind of sound. And Editors are among the cream of the crop. Songs like "Munich", "Blood", "Bullets" are better constructed and simply more powerful than most of their contemporaries. Some of the choruses get a bit repetitive, as if the band ran out of ideas, but overall the songs are impressive for a debut album. If you like Interpol, definitely check out The Back Room as well. Search out the two CD limited edition if you can -- unlike some "bonus" tracks, the six extra songs here are definitely worth it! 8 out of 10.
